GUANTÁNAMO: City with a flourishing Hebrew Community / Una ciudad con una comunidad hebrea floreciente

Guantánamo is the capital of the most oriental province in Cuba, home of the Yad-El Hebrew Community, the second largest in Cuba, with 72 members. This community, founded in 1929, has gathered migration of Jews that came to this city escaping from the Nazis.

 They settled and some of them became businessmen, respectable people, and founded excellent families. By doing so, they integrated Cuban society and became part of economic, social and spiritual life of the country. This flourishing community is very observant of Jewish traditions, history, culture and all the celebrations of the Hebrew calendar.

La ciudad de Guantánamo es la capital de la provincia más oriental de Cuba, donde se encuentra la comunidad hebrea Yad-El, la segunda más numerosa de Cuba, con 72 miembros. 

Fundada en el año 1929, esta comunidad desde sus inicios se ha nutrido con migraciones de judíos europeos que llegaron a esta ciudad huyendo del nazismo. Aquí se establecieron, se hicieron hombres de negocios en su mayoría y ciudadanos respetables que constituyeron varias familias. Estas personas se integraron a la sociedad cubana y formaron parte de la vida económico, social y espiritual. En esta floreciente comunidad se observan las tradiciones, historia, cultura y celebraciones del calendario hebrea.

En posteriores actualizaciones ampliaremos en detalle aspectos que engrandecen esta comunidad que hace honor al criterio de que: “el pueblo de Israel vive en Cuba”
